Christine and Angie: Central Park Wedding

As I’ve said many a time, what I love most about this job is getting to connect with my clients and tell their stories.  Angie and Christine got in touch with me a few months ago to tell me they were planning on eloping in New York on Dec 13–on their 20TH ANNIVERSARY!!  How incredible is that?  Of course I was delighted they had gotten in touch with me, and thrilled to be able to get to know them and capture such an important event in their lives.  They thought it would be just a few people joining them in NY–maybe parents and a couple friends–but once word got out about their plans, pretty soon there were 25 people booking their flights!

Angie and Christine had a beautiful small wedding at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park, officiated by the wonderful Rev. Annie Lawrence.  I’ve worked with Annie often, and am so inspired by how personal each and every one of her ceremonies is.  After they tied the knot, the ladies had very generously invited me out to a delicious meal at Pera.  That’s where I really got to see who these ladies are–I think I was most impressed by the synchronized chair dancing 🙂

Stay tuned for more pictures from our day-after portrait session in the West Village!  Congratulations, you two.

Debby and Matt: Superfine

As the year is edging closer to its end, I’m finding myself with a few spare moments to blog what I haven’t had the chance to throughout 2011.  A handful of times this year, I’ve had the opportunity to second shoot for a few other of NYC’s very talented wedding photographers.  I LOVE second shooting for two big reasons:  1) I get to see other photographers do their thang, and 2) I get to focus on things I might not get to focus on when I’m the main shooter.  I get to step back and look for the obscure angles or the little details that the main shooter might not see because she has too many other things to think about.

I shot Debby and Matt’s wedding for the awesome Brooklyn-based photographer, Jordan Van Aken.  I absolutely adored Debby’s cool, sophisticated style (I was maybe a little obsessed with her sweet shoulder jewelry).  Their ceremony took place at Pier 1 overlooking Manhattan in DUMBO, and the reception was held at Superfine.  Very cool spot for a laid back, Brooklyn reception.  Thanks for having me along on this one, Jordan!

After the ceremony, the whole party hoofed it over to Superfine.
I love how the stage was set up–it really did turn into a night of open mics.
Debbie’s parents were unable to make it from their home in New Zealand, so there was an emotional live skype feed for them to give their congratulations.
And let’s not forget about the dancing…
