I’m Jenny Boyle Penney. I tell peoples’ stories.

I’ve been a photographer for as long as I can remember. My dad still remembers the day my 12-year old self announced to him, “I know what I want to do for a living—be a photographer.” After attending photo school at Ridgewater College in Minnesota, I ventured out for additional degrees in Theatre and Creative Writing from Florida State University. Each of these studies helped feed my fascination with people—who we all are as characters and how to tell a story about it. I live in beautiful Seattle, WA, but I enthusiastically accept commissions from both the east and west coast, so don't hesitate to drop me a line anytime.

Everyone out there is unique…people in love, people expecting, people while they’re young, silly, and free, people on the biggest day of their lives, or people on days just like any other. Being a photographer is important to me because I get to learn people’s stories and share them through images. The story that I tell is the legacy of the people in it. It’s a story that can be passed down through generations.

That, in a nutshell, is why I do what I do--and love it. I get to give people their stories.

Haley and David: Central Park, NYC

Haley and Dave are SO CUTE!! Sorry, Dave, if your guy friends give you guff for my saying that

I met with them a couple months ago at a little bakery on a trip to NYC. As with most of the couples I meet with, I was super excited to hear all the fun details with the proposal. Every couple has such a different story, and it’s so fun to get all giddy and school-girly with them while they recount their own tale. Well. Let me tell you, their proposal story is a whopper.

The two of them took a vacation to New Zealand, and little did Haley know that David had a ring up his sleeve. They went for a private helicopter ride, which took them to the top of a mountain ridge. And then left them there! What did they find waiting for them but their own sweet little picnic. And Haley still had no idea! This is where David proposed to Haley, and of course she said yes. Afterwards they continued their helicopter ride, touring New Zealand with a bird’s eye view as a newly engaged couple.

After telling me this story, Haley had to rub her cheeks–they hurt from her smiling too big. Tell me, guys, how tough is that to beat?
